The Village
Cetara is a fishing village located on the Amalfi coast, near Vietri sul Mare and a shot
distance from Salerno.
Cetara has a millennial maritime tradition. Here was born a unique product, an Italian delicacy resulting from an
unrepeatable alchemy: it is the Colatura di Alici, a precious liquid characterized by an amber color.
The Colatura di Alici can be described as an anchovies concentrate, obtained from a process of maturation under salt,
following an ancient procedure that Cetara’s fishermen handed down from father to son.
Fior di Cetara proudly continues the tradition of processing anchovies and tuna using artisan methods, bringing to the
consumer’s table all the flavor of the sea.
The Traditions
As a fishermen’s village that lives thanks to the sea and hand down their precious knowledge from
generation to generation, Cetara has a history rich in traditions.
The main tradition is certainly that of the Colatura di Alici, produced using the ancient method. This is a tradition so
important in Cetara’s culture that a museum unique in the world has been named after it.
The first Winery Museum dedicated to Fishing and Anchovy Colatura di Alici is located in Cetara, in the halls of the
wonderful Torre Vicereale: an area where are stored old barrels which the precious amber liquid obtained from the
maturation of salted anchovies.
The Winery Museum also includes a small, but very important, library that collects books, historical documents,
newspapers, magazines, photographs dedicated to the roots of Cetara.
